What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Universal is the general meaning of “Rei,” but on a deeper level, the symbols of the Japanese character represent the higher levels of consciousness beyond ego channeled through the body, mind, and spirit of the human being through to the earth. More specifically, representing the bridge of the healer between the heavens and the physical. Ki has the same meaning as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian, while science calls it biofield energy. It is life force energy and the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts, and spiritual life.

Together, Reiki stands for universal life force energy, but it is worth noting that reiki is guided by spiritual consciousness, guiding itself with its own wisdom, rather than that of the practitioner.

Reiki I – allows for the ability to use reiki energy on yourself, family, and friends

Reiki II – allows for the ability to use reiki energy on clients as a reiki practitioner

Reiki III – is the master level of reiki, allowing increased reiki energy in the practitioner and the ability to attune other students with the reiki energy

While many forms of energy healing exist, reiki can only be channeled by someone who has received the placement or attunement for it from a Reiki Master.

What is Holy Fire® Reiki?

In 2014, William Lee Rand was made aware of a healing energy more refined and containing a higher level of consciousness than anything he had previously experienced. He was given the symbol and the attunement and guided through his first teaching experience. The Usui reiki symbols were retained and a new symbol added representing a more potent healing energy from a higher level of consciousness.

The traditional attunement process became an Ignition for master level and later he was given the Reiki I and II placement process. This new energy required little interaction with the students, but instead relied on the intention of the student to ignite the energy within the body. The master simply conducts a short, guided meditation and afterwards the Holy Fire® energy conducts the placement or ignition process directly.

How Does Reiki Heal?

Ki is life energy that flows through all living things. In our physical body, ki flows through chakras and meridians, as well as through the organs and tissues of the body. Sometimes negative thoughts and beliefs become lodged in the physical body, disrupting the flow of ki. By flowing through the affected parts of the energy field of the body and charging them with positive energy, reiki raises the vibratory level. Once healthy ki is flowing, the physical organs and tissues are able to complete their healing process. So the reiki facilitates an environment in the body more conducive to healing.

What are Chakras and Meridians?

Chakras are energy centers within the body while meridians are pathways through which energy flows. Meridians are usually associated with an organ or physical system. What Can You Expect From a Reiki Session?

A reiki session can be performed with a hands-on approach or with the reiki practitioner’s hands hovering slightly over the body. Reiki can even be performed from a distance through intention and the use of reiki symbols learned at the Reiki II level.

A reiki practitioner may begin a reiki session with a traditional Gassho meditation, where they will place their hands together in the prayer position to call in the reiki energy. They may check the flow of energy to your chakras with a pendulum or feel into the energy with their hands, called byosen scanning.

While it is not necessary for a reiki practitioner to direct the energy as it has its own awareness, they may follow traditional hand placements throughout the practice. Reiki energy guides each practitioner in a way that is unique to them, working to heal the practitioner, their clients, and the planet. Because of this, there are a variety of different rituals you may experience when visiting a reiki practitioner. It is best to read about their methods and find a practitioner that feels aligned with your needs.

Because reiki is guided by spiritual consciousness, it can never do harm. The energy is always helpful and always safe.
