KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY RIDERS UP
"It seems fitting to say good-bye as we would at the Kentucky Derby, when the jockeys mount their horses, step onto the track for the post parade, and the band strikes up My Old Kentucky Home and all those in the stands and millions more at home sing along.
The song, My Old Kentucky Home, with words and music by Stephen Foster, was written in 1853 and adopted by Kentucky as its state song in 1928."
The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
‘tis Summer, the people are gay,
The corns top’s ripe and the meadow’s in the bloom
While the birds make music all the day.The young folks roll on the little cabin floor
All merry, all happy, and bright.
By’n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good nightChorus:
Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today.
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.
